How to stage your home for selling

If you’re bringing your property to the market, then you want to make sure it’s looking its best and ready to impress.

There are many simple things you can do to ensure your home is looking good from head to toe ahead of the property photography and viewings.

From having a good declutter and making sure those odd jobs are done, to tidying up the garden and adding some fresh flowers to brighten up a room - here are a few tips to help you get your home ready to sell.

Even if the property is in need of renovation, a clean and decluttered property will help attract buyers and give you a better chance of selling your home.

An obvious one to start with, but ensuring you deep clean your home before bringing it to the market is a must. Prospective buyers will be entering your home with a fresh set of eyes and if everywhere is clean, that’s a great start!

Decluttering is a fantastic way of maximising the space in your home and showing it off. Incorporating some storage or simply moving any items that don’t need to be on display can make a huge difference and make a room feel bigger.

Whilst you’re decluttering, try and remove any personal items from your home – such as family pictures or belongings. Taking away your personality from the property can really help buyers visualise themselves living there and filling those spaces with their own items.

There’s nothing worse than walking into a dark, dingy space – not only is it unwelcoming, but it doesn’t show off the space at its best. Make use of natural lighting where possible by opening curtains and blinds and make use of lights and lamps where needed.

If your property doesn’t need major renovations, be sure to do those little jobs you’ve been putting off. Whether it’s a loose door handle or a mark on the wall, these little things make a difference and means buyers won’t be put off by the long list of things that need to be done.

Tidy up the garden
Simple things like cutting the grass, planting a few pretty flowers and cleaning the patio are a great way of sprucing up your outside space and making it presentable. Not only does it look nice, but people will be able to envisage themselves sitting outside enjoying the space.

First impressions count
It’s all about kerb appeal! The front of your home is what people will be greeted with and first impressions go a long way. Make sure the windows and front door are clean, your path or driveway is looking its best and that your front garden is tidy.

Final touches
Adding a bunch of flowers to a room and making sure the heating is at a comfortable level go a long way when it comes to house viewings. Allowing people to feel more at home, this will give them a good feeling about the property, which is exactly what you’re aiming for!
