With more than 17 years’ experience in the property industry, Peter joined Auction House in April 2022 as Area Manager for Cornwall. With a strong background in property sales, Peter brings local knowledge and a passion for building relationships to his role.
“Other than a brief stint as a trainee electrical engineer, I have always worked in estate agency. Starting out as a Trainee Negotiator, I progressed to Branch Manager which eventually led me to Cornwall.
Originally from the South East, Peter followed his family to Cornwall and having always envisaged himself living there, now considers it home with his partner and four-year-old daughter.
“I was raised in Essex and then moved to Somerset with my family at 18. I moved back to Essex for a period while my family settled in Cornwall. With most of my family here and my daughter being born here, Cornwall is the place that truly feels like home.
Having spent the past 7 years in Truro, I can’t imagine myself living anywhere else. With everything on your doorstep, it offers the luxury of convenience. That being said, if I could be tempted to move anywhere else it would be Falmouth. I love the coast and how much Falmouth has to offer from restaurants, the seaside and castle, to wonderful walks. It’s the only other place I can see myself living – there is always so much going on there.
One of my favourite places to visit other than Falmouth is Perranporth Beach. A huge stretch of sand, it’s dog friendly and only a 10 minute drive away (when they aren’t working on the A30). They also have a pub on the beach – what more could you want!”
Despite a successful career as a Valuer and Sales Manager, Peter never considered working in auctions as an option until he saw the role advertised.
“Working in the auctions industry is something I had considered but without knowing much about it, I assumed it was off limits as I wasn’t a trained auctioneer.
I had been running my own business for the past 15 months, but decided I wanted to focus on what I do best – building relationships with clients (rather than the business admin side of things).
I had a job offer lined up, but something didn’t feel quite right, so I decided to have one last look and visited a different recruitment website where I saw the Area Manger role advertised. I re-read the job description 10 times to make sure I was suitable, applied and heard back instantly. It felt like fate, and I haven’t looked back since accepting the role!
Even though I have 17 years’ experience in property sales, this role feels like a great opportunity and an exciting progression. There are many similarities to working in estate agency but also many differences and lots to learn. My goal is to be able to educate those looking to buy or sell in Cornwall about the benefits of property auctions and help as many people as possible buy and sell with confidence.”
Through his time living and working in Cornwall, Peter understands the importance of having in depth knowledge of not only the local area, but also any specific factors that could impact the sale or purchase of properties.
“I feel confident, that my local knowledge and prior experience gives me a great opportunity to build and nurture relationships with clients across the Cornwall region. There is such a vast array of unique property types and land on offer, from your charming chocolate box and fisherman’s cottages to former miners’ properties and the more modern styles.
Different towns have different quirks or restrictions, for example mundic, which can impact the sales process and isn’t necessarily known about outside of the area. Having knowledge of each individual area is essential and helps me support both potential buyers and the property owner.
I’m excited to be able to bring a truly more local service to Cornwall and grow the Auction House brand here.”
