Holiday-going homeowners are being encouraged to make sure their homes are fully secure before jetting off on their summer holiday.
With peak holiday season approaching, a new study from Aviva has shown that only three-fifths of people check all their doors and windows are locked before going away.
Following this, the study also found that just 48% ensure there are no valuable on display and surprisingly, 9% of people still leave a key under their doormat or somewhere easily accessible.
It’s incredibly important to make sure your home is secure before going on holiday – especially with people publicising the fact they’re away by posting their holiday snaps.
Data from Aviva has revealed that the months of July, August and September are somewhat a hotspot for UK home theft claims. These summer months see 48% more claims compared to any other time of the year.
Nobody wants to return from a wonderful time away to find they have been the victim of a burglary.
So, what can you do to ensure your home is secure?
- Check everything is locked
- Leave a key with someone you trust
- Keep all valuables out of sight
- Ask a neighbour to park on your driveway
- Use timers to turn on lights
