Amy joined the Essex team at the beginning of April as a Client Liaison Executive after building a varied career across customer service roles.

Since joining Auction House, she has embraced the fast-paced nature of the auction world, enjoying everything from client communication and property marketing to creating video tours and supporting buyers and sellers throughout the process.

What attracted you to working in the auction sector specifically?

After my interview with Simon Mellish and Oliver Prior I could really see how I could do a good job and use my existing experience to my advantage. It has been an exciting change so far and I've really enjoyed chatting to sellers and prospective buyers.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the team?

I really like being part of the Essex team. There are only three of us in total, and with no auction experience, I was sure I would struggle. But it has been a relatively easy transition into the industry overall. I went straight from training in Norwich to the Essex office, but I felt really supported and it has helped me to pick up things quickly.

What does your role involve day to day?

The role is very varied! I provide support to Simon Mellish and Alex Mellish with the listings and management of the properties by ordering searches and checking title documents, sending identity checks and handling some of the more official communications with sellers/buyers (deposit requests, agency agreements, etc.). I often liaise with clients for appraisal requests and general information, book viewings and chase information such as legal packs so we can guarantee everyone is informed throughout the process. I really like the marketing side; I particularly enjoy visiting the properties for photos and creating video tours for the website.

What do you think sets Auction House apart?

It is probably how personal the process is. I have only been a part of the small team in Essex for a short time, but I have already built good relationships with sellers and had great chats with buyers too. The amount of time spent explaining processes is lovely to see. I think Auction House really sets an example for how the relationships should be; we show that we can be trusted with large values and stressful situations.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about property auctions?

I think the main thing I was surprised at is how much is done in house and at such speed! Buying my own property took seven months from start to finish, whereas here it is typically 28 days to complete after the auction. It’s not a sales-driven environment like your usual estate agents, which feels impersonal and has a lack of empathy. Here we really get to know the situations that have led people to auction and it’s nice to know I am part of the assistance people get.

Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?

I spend most of my time currently out and about with my friends and boyfriend, whether that be down the pub for a gossip or vinyl record shopping.

A lot of my attention is also given to my rescue dog, Lola.
